Masham, Wensleydale – walking week early August 2021

The Club will be returning to the magnificent Yorkshire Dales in early August 2021, based in Masham, near Leyburn – the home of two breweries! We have booked three properties and there are a few vacancies, following publicity in the last Club newsletter. Two houses have been reserved for Friday 6th – 13th August and one has been booked for Saturday 7th to 14th. In order to restrict numbers to a maximum of 6 per property we are offering all ‘singles’ sole occupancy of a room. Consequently prices are a little higher than on other budget trips, but are still excellent value at £250 per head for the week. A deposit of £50 is required, with the balance payable by early June 2021. Please contact Jill if you are interested – and do let her know if you book independently.

Sad News – Yvonne Graves and Margaret Gates

It is very sad to report the deaths of Yvonne Graves and Margaret Gates, two long-standing members of this Club. Margaret’s daughter has asked us to let friends know that her funeral is on Monday 2nd November at 1.00pm at St Andrew’s Church Chesterton.

Why organised walking groups can be 6+

Club members know that organised outdoor sport and physical activity has an explicit exemption from the current Covid rules which limit other kinds of gatherings to a maximum of 6 people. At present, such activity can take place anywhere in England, as confirmed by UK government guidance, whatever ‘tier’ an area is in.  The proviso is that organised walks must comply with the rules and procedures that have been put in place by the Ramblers, the national body for walking, and Sport England. The Club, which is affiliated to the Ramblers, has implemented these procedures in full.

However, the general public is unaware of this exemption from the ‘rule of 6’. Club members on our organised walks have been challenged and we think it very useful if walk leaders carry with them information about our position – including why we are exempt. We encourage members to download a copy of our latest guidance on this issue, which has been posted in the ‘Members’ section of our website.
