Wednesday B All-day walk – Great Eversden and Wimpole
February 8 @ 10:15 am - 3:00 pm
Start time: 10.15
Walk length: 7.5 miles (4.5 miles before lunch and 3 miles after lunch,)
Walk details: It’s a lollipop shaped walk starting at Great Eversden and circling around around large parts of the Wimpole estate before making our way back to Great Eversden. No stiles. Occasional mud but it is largely superficial and not too prolonged. (Hopefully!)
3 short uphill stretches – 2 before lunch and 1 after lunch. None of them are too difficult and they do reward you with lovely views.
We will not be going anywhere that charges for admission or requires a National Trust membership card.
Meeting point and parking: Eversden Village Hall. Post code: CB23 1HP & OS grid reference: 366536
Directions from Cambridge: From Cambridge travel on the A603 towards Wimpole. Then turn right off the A603 opposite La Pergola restaurant (Wheatsheaf pub) and just before the caravan sales garage. Drive through Little Eversden to Great Eversden. Go past the church on the left, then turn right into Chapel Road at The Hoops restaurant/Cam Spice. There is a small signpost for the Village Hall pointing down Chapel Road. The car park is at the village hall very soon on the right.
Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at the tearoom in Wimpole, which has the usual National Trust fare eg. sandwiches, soup, baked potatoes, scones, cakes etc.
No need to decide on food in advance, just choose when you get there.
Those who would like to bring their own picnics are asked not to eat them at the tables outside the tearoom. There are picnic tables on the grass near the stable block. If you need to shelter from the rain, I believe you could also eat your own food under the roofed area in the stable block itself.
Dogs are welcome anywhere outside (including the terrace in front of the tearoom) but not in any indoor spaces such as in the tearoom itself, the shop etc.
Leaders: Hilary and Steve
Booking: Anyone wishing to join the walk please email Hilary at hilary.hladky@gmail.com by 8pm on Monday 6th February.
