Coming South West on the A1304 (old A11 – London Road) from the Newmarket side of Six Mile Bottom, continue through the village and over the railway level crossing. Carry on for 0.5km and turn left just before the road curves right to join the new A11. This turn is signed Weston Colleville and West Wratting. Park immediately along this 250m straight section of road (it’s a wide section – a remnant of the old A11).
Start locators: TL573562 CB8 0UH – or see http://www.earf.co.uk/smb.jpg
The walk heads South East for short while before turning up towards the church at Six Mile Bottom and to a mile long section parallel to the Cambridge to Newmarket railway line. A steep climb follows up to Westley Bottom, where a 10 minute break will be taken. The return journey takes the walk along the ridge and past the Woodland cemetery site, turning off the road and foot-pathing the remaining distance back to the meeting point. On a clear day, good distant views are to seen at various points along the walk.
