Wednesday B all-Day walk – Upware and Wicken Fen

Walk length: 7 mile circular walk from Upware to Wicken Fen and back. It is flat walking on riverbanks and gravel tracks, with three steep footbridges and very little mud.
Meeting place: Environment Agency Car Park, Upware Road, Upware, CB7 5YQ.
Directions from Cambridge: A10 towards Ely, at the Stretham roundabout turn right onto the A1123 towards Wicken. After passing over a large concrete bridge, continue for about half a mile and take the right hand turn signposted for Upware and Swaffham Prior. Follow this road until you reach Upware. In Upware go round a 90 degree left hand bend and the Environment Agency car park is on the left just before you get to the river.
Note of caution: If taking a different route that uses the road from Swaffham Prior to Upware be advised that it is only single-track with a few passing places and could be uneven.
Parking: Environment Agency car park or on adjacent road edge.
Group size: Maximum of 15 people
Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at The National Trust Docky Hut Café, Wicken Fen. There is plenty of inside and outside seating. (If you bring a clean reusable cup you will receive 25p off your hot drink)For those that wish to bring their own lunch there are picnic tables and toilets nearby.

In line with the requirements for group walks of more than six people, as approved by Ramblers UK (the national body for walking), everyone coming on the walk must provide the leader with their contact details.

Please email or phone the leader if you plan to come. Please remember to give your name as part of any message! Your details will be held for 21 days for Covid-19 ‘test and trace’ purposes, then deleted.

No one should come on the walk if they feel even slightly ill.  Please make sure that you bring with you a face covering, hand sanitiser and any walking poles you need; no equipment or refreshments can be shared beyond households.  In line with government guidance, members are asked to observe ‘social distancing’ on the walk.
