Walk length: Around 7 miles. Approximately 4 miles before lunch and just under 3 miles after lunch.

Walk details: The walk starts in St Ives and follows the river Ouse around to Houghton Mill and the village of Houghton, returning via the Thicket path to St Ives. Recently there has been no mud on the route and the paths are reasonably clear. No stiles.

Meeting place and parking: We will meet at the St Ives Park and Ride (PE27 4LG) on the pavement alongside parking zone A4. There should be parking spaces available either in A4 or A3. (See directions below)

It’s also possible to take the guided bus to St Ives Park and Ride, The buses stop very close to zone A.

Directions from Cambridge: From Cambridge take the A14 towards Huntingdon. Exit at junction 24b onto A1307 towards Huntingdon. Stay on A1307. At exit 26 take A1096 towards St Ives. At next roundabout follow signs to St Ives industrial park A1096 Harrison Way. At next roundabout take 3rd exit to Park and Ride, Meadow Lane. Turn right at the sign into the P&R, then follow the one way system all the way round to zone A. We will be at A4.

Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at the “Three Jolly Butchers” in Houghton. We will probably eat in the restaurant, otherwise we can be in the bar area or the garden if fine. The lunch menu is attached below. Dogs are allowed in the bar and the garden but not in the restaurant. Anyone bringing a picnic can eat in the picnic area at Houghton Mill.
