Start time: 10:00 (Note earlier start time than usual)

Walk length: A little over 6.5 miles. The walk is 5.5 miles in the morning and just over 1 mile in the afternoon.

Walk details: The walk is a figure of 8 and a mixture of walking around the historic town of Saffron Walden and open countryside. There are no stiles, it’s mainly on wide tracks and there was very little mud on the day of our recce (but this can’t be guaranteed given the continuing rain). It is slightly undulating in places.  The walk can be extended slightly if the group or individuals wish to walk round Bridge End Gardens.

Meeting place and parking: The walk starts at the Swan Meadow car park, Saffron Walden CB10 1DA. Please meet by the roundabout at the end of the car park closest to the town centre. Pay and Display – Charges are £2.50 for up to 6 hours.

Directions from Cambridge: From central Cambridge, follow the A1307 passing Addenbrookes Hospital, until you reach the A11 at the Four Wentways interchange. Turn right and follow the A11 south for just over 3.5 miles, leaving at the junction with A1301/B184. Follow B184 towards Saffron Walden for 4 miles. Swan Meadow car park is on the right (signposted) as you come down a steep hill into Saffron Walden.

Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at Café CouCou. Menus are attached and they can cater for special dietary needs. The soup of the day will vary. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the café.

For people wishing to eat their own food, the Jubilee Gardens are close by.
