Wednesday A walk from Nuthampstead
October 15, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The walk on 15 October will be a figure of 8 leaving from the Woodman Inn (postcode SG8 8NB) in Nuthampstead (grid reference TL411347) with 7 miles in the morning and 5 miles in the afternoon. The morning takes us via Reed and the afternoon is via Coltsfoot and Anstey.
The pub will be open from 9.30 am so we may place lunch orders and use the toilets. Parking is in the pub’s car park. There is a bench and grassy area by the WW2 memorial very close to the pub which may be used by those taking their own lunch.
Please note that at the time of our reccy, Barkway High Street is closed. This is the direct route from Barley to Nuthampstead. At the cross roads at the north end of Barley, coming from Flint Cross (A505) be prepared to turn LEFT here rather than go straight on. If coming from Royston, go straight on, rather than turning right down Barley High Street.
Thereafter go RH at the end and immediately LH. At the end of that go RH and LH after a while. These turnings are signposted by the enterprising Woodman pub with yellow diversion signs. After a couple of miles of bending road you will come to Nuthampstead, where you want to aim for straight ahead for the pub (rh and lh again).
If Barkway High Street has reopened you can come the more direct route of course!
Forewarned is forearmed.
