B Morning Walks: Saffron Walden or Oakington

General walk information:

BAM walks are between 5 ½ and 6 ½ miles and walked at a pace of about 3 miles/hr. We begin at 10.00 prompt (unless otherwise stated) and usually finish between 12.30-1.00 pm. There are two walks available each week. Please let the leader know you are coming by sending them a text (or call). We hope the number of walkers will be 12 or less and at the leader’s discretion. We do not stop for lunch but there is normally a short break for a drink etc.

 Walk A: Saffron Walden

Start of walk: 10.00 am

Car parking: Car parking at Swam Meadow carpark. Off the B184 on the RHS just before entering the town. Car parking charges apply.  TL 534385. The walk will be mainly grass field edges and wood paths. The return via pavements/tarmac tracks.

Walk B: Oakington PnR

Start of walk: 10.00 am

Car parking: Routes & Times | The Busway – connecting Huntingdon, St Ives & Cambridge. Meet near bus stop on Water Lane, Oakington. There isn’t any parking right by bus stop but available road parking in Queen’s Way CB243AW and Meadow Farm Close CB243AS, these are both off Water Lane on right approaching bus too so allow a few minutes to park and get there.

This walk will use parts of the guided busway and other local paths around Oakington and Westwick. As we pass St Andrews Church (parts of which date from 13C we may be able to take a short look around. Some sections may be Muddy but we will try to stick to the firmer paths.

In line with the requirements for group walks of more than six people, as approved by the Ramblers (the national body for walking), everyone coming on the walk must provide the leader with their contact details.

Please text the leader if you plan to come. Please remember to give your name as part of the text! Your details will be held for 21 days for Covid-19 ‘test and trace’ purposes, then deleted. The maximum number of people allowed on any walk is 30.

No one should come on the walk if they feel even slightly ill. Please make sure that you bring with you a face covering, hand sanitiser and any walking poles you need; no equipment or refreshments can be shared beyond households. In line with government guidance, members are asked to observe ‘social distancing’ on the walk.
