Date:27th October

Walk A Cottenham

Start of walk: 10.00 am

Car parking: Meeting point is All Saints Church, Cottenham. CB248SA. This is far end of High Street if coming from Cambridge direction or first thing you come to if coming from Wilburton. There is some parking around church and nearby high street, please park where you can with consideration to the locals and meet at the church gate.

This is a walk that takes in fen farmland, we go into Smithey Fen walking down Cottenham Lode passing Fen Reeves Plantation on right and Bullock’s Haste (a Romano-British settlement) on the left apparently. When we meet the Great Ouse we walk it’s banks for about 2 miles returning to Cottenham via a long drove.

It can be a breezy, exposed walk on a windy day as not much shelter on the banks and a little muddy underfoot after rain, worth it for the views across and may well see some birds along the river banks. There is one stile on route but otherwise an easy walk.

Group size: Up to 12

Mileage: About 6 miles
