Walk length: 7.5-8 miles

Walk details: Morning roughly 5 miles and afternoon 3 miles.  There is one stile and two fallen trees.  There is some walking along pavements but most of the walk is in the countryside, near the river.  The nettles are not yet very high but it might be advisable to wear trousers rather than shorts.

Meet: Jubilee Hall car park, Mildenhall.  Postcode – IP28 7HG(Please use the postcode rather than the name of the car park if you are using your satnav)

Directions from Cambridge to Mildenhall:

A14 east, then A11 until roundabout at Barton Mills, signposted Mildenhall – first exit onto A1101 towards Mildenhall.  Continue on until War Memorial – statue of soldier – and take immediate left onto King Street and very soon, left again onto Recreation Way.  Tourist information and bus station on the corner as you turn into Recreation Way.

Turn immediately right into Jubilee Way between Costa Coffee on the right and Sainsbury’s on the left.  Drive behind Sainsbury’s and park in free, long-stay Jubilee Hall car park –There is plenty of parking although signs say the car park is prone to flooding!  [We think this only applies to the lower level.]

Do not park in Sainsbury’s car park as only 2-hour free stay is permitted. However please note that there are toilets in the Sainsbury’s store.

Numbers: No restriction on numbers walking

Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at approximately 12.30 p.m.

Pub:  Jude’s Ferry Inn, West Row IP28 8PT (tel. 01638 712277) – has plenty of parking and outside seating including some under cover.  It is beside the water and has a pleasant outlook.  Open for food from 11.30 a.m. – 2.30 p.m. during the week.  Dogs are allowed inside.  The full menu is available on line.  (judesferry.com) Extracts from menu below.

Picnic:  If you prefer to bring a picnic, you will need to bring something to sit on.  If the weather is fine, you may like to eat your lunch on the grass by the river bank.
