Wednesday B All-day walk – St Neots and Paxton Pits

Start time: 10.15

Walk length: 7.4 miles (Morning – 5.1 miles; afternoon – 2.3 miles)

Walk details: A flat walk starting at Priory Park in St Neots. After a short walk through part of the town, the route follows the Ouse Valley Way along the River Great Ouse and into the Paxton Pits Nature Reserve, If we are lucky, we should see a variety of birds and other water fowl. A mix of paths, fields, some tarmac paths, no ploughed fields and no stiles.

Meeting point and parking: Priory Park, Huntingdon Road, St Neots PE19 1RF

Directions from Cambridge: Take the A428 from Cambridge towards St Neots. On approaching St Neots, turn right at the 1st roundabout into St Neots (B1428). Continue straight into St Neots, shortly after passing Lidl (on your right) you reach a set of traffic lights. Turn right at the lights onto Huntingdon Road (B1043). Continue along this road past the fire station. Just after a set of pedestrian lights look for the Priory Park sign on the right and turn into the car park.

Lunch arrangements: This will be at The Anchor in Little Paxton. Menu is attached and they would like us to order in advance. Please send your menu choices to Geoff (e – geoffhale53@gmail.com) no later than Monday 6 March at 6 pm. Dogs are welcome in the bar area (but not the restaurant). We have indicated we will be happy to eat in the bar area. There are plenty of tables and it wasn’t busy when Jackie and I visited on our recce.

For anyone not wishing to eat at the pub, there are tables and benches by the Paxton Pits Visitor Centre which we pass on the way to The Anchor and return the same way. The Visitor Centre serves tea, coffee and a small number of cakes, bars etc. It has toilets.

Please email the leader if you plan to come. Please remember to give your name as part of any message! Your details will be held for 7 days just in case it is necessary to notify others on a walk that someone has tested positive for Covid. Individual details will be deleted after 7 days. No one should come on the walk if they feel even slightly ill.
