Walk length: 7.3 miles (4.8 miles before lunch and 2.5 miles in the afternoon)

Walk details: A figure of eight walk based on The Old Red Lion in Horseheath, but with two-thirds of the walk before lunch. Ideal for anyone who wishes to just do the morning walk. A lot of wide grass tracks, some sections on quiet roads. Given the time of year, there are a couple of muddy fields to cross where the path has not been reinstated fully. We will stop for a short break at West Wickham church after about 70 minutes. In the afternoon, the route crosses the A1307 twice so care is needed as it is a busy and fast road. No stiles.

Meeting place and parking: Please use the car park at The Old Red Lion (Linton Road, Horseheath, Cambridge CB21 4QF), where the walk will start.

Directions: Take the A1307 out of Cambridge heading towards Haverhill. Continue along A1307 through Linton. After approx. 3.5 miles, you will see a left-hand turning signposted to Horseheath and West Wickham. You will see The Old Red Lion on your right after c. 0.15 mile.

Lunch arrangements: Lunch will be at The Old Red Lion in Horseheath. There will be a selection of sandwiches or you can choose from the main menu. The menu will be updated in the next two weeks as the pub changes to its Christmas menu. On arrival, you can go into the pub, there will be menus available and you can make your selection before the walk starts. Dogs are allowed in the bar area but not in the restaurant. There was a lovely hot stove in the bar area when Jackie and I recced the walk on 14 November.

If you prefer to bring your own food, there is a bench near the village green and a bus stop (with bench). We will pass these as we return to the pub for lunch and they will be pointed out to anyone not eating at The Old Red Lion.
