Wednesday B all-day walk – Great Chishill and Chrishall

May 17, 2023 @ 10:15 am - 3:00 pm

Start time: 10.15

Walk length: 7.6 miles (just under 6 miles in the morning and a little over 1.5 miles after lunch)

Walk details: This walk starts in Great Chishill and heads generally south along the ridge towards Killem’s Green, touches the edge of Langley, before heading north to Chrishall for lunch. Mainly tracks and good paths. Some gentle climbs. No stiles. The walk was generally dry when recce’d in April so we are not expecting a lot of mud.

Meeting point and parking: There is car parking available by the Great Chishill Cricket Club pavilion on Hall Lane in Great Chishill SG8 8SH. The walk will start and finish there. We will collect £1 per walker and pass on to the cricket club and Great Chishill Nursery (who use the pavilion on a Wednesday).

Directions from Cambridge: From Cambridge, get on to the A505 heading in a westerly direction towards Royston. At Flint Cross (Esso garage), turn left on to B1368, then take the first left on to New Road and follow into Great Chishill. At the T-junction, turn right on to Heydon Road. Follow the road, passing The Pheasant on the left. At the 4-way cross-road, turn left into Hall Lane (B1039), follow for approximately 0.3 mile. Almost immediately after passing Wallers Close on your right, there is an uphill driveway on your left which leads to the car park. On Google Maps, you will see the building by the car park marked as Great Chishill Nursery (they meet in the cricket pavilion).

Lunch arrangements: This will be at The Red Cow in Chrishall. We have eaten there on a number of occasions previously. Please see the website for the menu – https://theredcow.com/current-menu/. There is a range of tortilla wraps served with fries and mixed leaves and a number of starters to choose from. Please send your menu choices to Geoff (e – geoffhale53@gmail.com) by 6 pm on Sunday 14 May. Dogs are welcome in the bar area (but not the restaurant). Please let me know if you will be bringing a dog so the pub can set a table in the bar area if needed.

For anyone not wishing to eat at the pub, there is a playing field opposite which has a pavilion with three benches. We will provide directions on the day.

Booking: Please email Geoff ( e- geoffhale53@gmail.com) if you intend to come on the walk and, as noted above, if you wish to eat in the pub, please order by 6 pm on Sunday (14 May).
