Wednesday B All-day walk – Elmdon and Chrishall

Walk length: 7.5 miles
Walk details: Figure of 8 walk from Elmdon to Chrishall for lunch, via Strethall and Freewood Farm, returning to Elmdon.
The morning walk is 5.8 miles and the afternoon 1.7 miles. There is one stile, some tarmacked tracks, a small amount of road walking, and a short hill after lunch.
For those wanting to have a shorter walk, it would be possible to cut back to your car with a total distance of under 4 miles,
Meeting place: Just beyond St Nicholas Church in Elmdon as detailed below. Post Code CB11 4LT (this is code for St Nicholas’ Church). OS Grid Reference: TL462 397
Directions and parking: Take whichever is the most direct route from your home to junction 10 on the M11 (Duxford War Imperial War Museum) and turn onto the A505 towards Royston. Turn left after the pet crematorium and follow the road through Chrishall Grange, following signs for Elmdon. Turn left by St. Nicholas’ Church into Ickleton Road. Follow the road for about 200 metres and you will see the old school on the left. You can park on the right-hand side near some terraced houses, called School Row, or just beyond.
Group size: No limit on number of walkers
Lunch arrangements: Lunchwill be at the Red Cow public house, 11 High Street, Chrishall, Essex SG8 8RN, at approximately 12.45 p.m. Please see the attached menu.
Dogs are allowed in the bar but not in the dining area.
There are picnic benches in the pub grounds and they would be happy for you to eat your lunch purchased in the pub, if you would prefer to eat in the fresh air.
Those eating their own lunch will need to do so nearby in Chrishall (leaders will indicate where).

In line with the requirements for group walks of more than six people, as approved by Ramblers UK (the national body for walking), everyone coming on the walk must provide the leader with their contact details.
Please email or phone the leader if you plan to come. Please remember to give your name as part of any message! Your details will be held for 21 days for Covid-19 ‘test and trace’ purposes, then deleted.
No one should come on the walk if they feel even slightly ill. Please make sure that you bring with you a face covering, hand sanitiser and any walking poles you need; no equipment or refreshments can be shared beyond households. In line with government guidance, members are asked to observe ‘social distancing’ on the walk.
