Start time: 10.30 (note later start than usual)

Walk length: 6½ miles (in the morning 4 miles, in the afternoon 2½ miles)

Walk details: Route follows the Devil’s Dyke to Reach, then circles back via Swaffham Prior. There are no stiles, but walkers do have to get up the very short distance onto the dyke.

Meeting place and parking: To park, take the B1102 from Swaffham Prior towards Burwell. Just after the point where the road intersects the dyke, take the right turn signposted P Devil’s Dyke.

Directions from Cambridge: Take Newmarket Road (A 1303) and head east. Cross the A14 and take the immediate first left to Stow cum Quy (B1102). Continue on B1102, passing Anglesey Abbey, through Swaffham Bulbeck and skirting Swaffham Prior. Then park as described above.

Lunch arrangements: Regrettably the pub at Swaffham Prior is closed, but we have the use of the Village Hall. Please bring a packed lunch. There are facilities for making hot drinks, so bring your own tea bag, etc. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the village Hall but the Hall is set back a bit so dog owners might feel they can leave their animals outside safely.

To cover the cost of the Hall, there will be a small charge of £1 per person.
