Start time: 10.30 a.m. (Note – later start time)

Walk length: This is a walk of approximately 7.25 miles. The morning is slightly longer (3.7 miles) than the afternoon (3.5 miles).

Walk details: The morning walk includes 2 manageable stiles in the first mile or so, and fairly even ground. The afternoon covers more undulating ground but with glorious rural views. The path in the morning especially was quite overgrown when recce’d on 9 July with a couple of sections having plenty of nettles. Long trousers are advised or you will get stung (as Geoff did while checking the route). If wet on the day (or on the previous day or two), you may prefer to wear waterproof trousers or gaiters.

Meeting place and parking: The Green, Cavendish – Postcode CO10 8BA. There is free parking alongside the High Street, near the Green in Cavendish. Walkers gather near the George Public House (now closed) by 10.30 a.m.

Directions from Cambridge: Follow A1307 through Linton towards Haverhill, follow A1017 around Haverhill and continue until there is a left turn on to A1092 (after approx. 6 miles). Route goes through Clare to Cavendish, with a left hand turn towards the Green. Note – there are extensive roadworks on the A1307 between Linton and Haverhill, with a 30 mph speed limit in places and possibly traffic lights. Please allow extra time on your journey.
