Wednesday A walk in Ickworth Park
January 29, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
The walk on 29 January is in Ickworth Park, a National Trust (NT) property with parkland and woods. Entry is free for NT members on sight of your card. The entry fee, including parking, for non-NT members is £3.00 per person, but if you are in a car with a NT life-member or volunteer, you may get free entry as their guest. As I have been asked to pay for admission of non-NT members by card in one payment, for the above reduced group rate to apply, I will be very grateful for reimbursement! When you arrive at the pay kiosk say you are with Cambridge Rambling Club and you will be waved through to the car park.
The walk will start at the car park in Ickworth Park, map ref TL 815 613, postcode IP29 5QE. The entrance to Ickworth is at Horringer on the A143, three miles SW of Bury St Edmunds. From the A14, turn off at the sign for the A1302 just before the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, to then go second right at the roundabout, to follow the signs for Westley and on to Ickworth.
The walk is suitable for a possible soggy late January as it is on well-defined footpaths and tracks, some a little muddy. It will follow two circular routes, 7 miles in the morning – the ‘Grand Tour’; and 4 miles in the afternoon – the ‘Rotunda Walk’.
Ickworth’s restaurant has a reasonable lunch menu, a bit different to pub fare, with soup, sandwiches and a range of main meals; bottled beers & cider, wine, soft drinks & beverages. Please see the winter menu 59504_West_wing_Autumn_Menu_2013_A5_V5 (3)
