Gillian will lead walk from Pirton along the Icknield Way to Lilley. Back over the downs. Just over 7 miles in the morning, 11.5 in all. Could be good for orchids and much else.

Lunch at Lilley Arms, which has simple pub food, soup, sandwiches and a few mains. Not on line. Picnics on the green opposite.

Park at Pirton Village Hall SG5 3PS. £2 per car, please. Toilets open.

When you get to Pirton turn right where you give way into Walnut Tree Lane, then .25 mile left into High Street. Past the pub, then the Hall is on the left just before the school. Please park at the back. Most route fixers will send you via A505/A1M/A602/505, which is the best route. Central Cambridge to Pirton takes just under the hour.
