Wed A Hartest

April 4, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Route: We will follow an undulating route over the Newmarket Ridge in open countryside with some good views, via Castle Farm, Rede & Somerton – approximately 8 miles in the morning and 4.5 miles after lunch.

Start: Please park in the Hartest Institute Car Park (marked Private) approximately 50m from the cross-roads in the centre of the village – on the right-hand side of the minor road running west towards Somerton – see map [GR TL833525, approximately IP29 4DH]. I have offered a donation of £2 per car to support the Institute.

Hartest lies on the B1066, approximately 10 miles south of Bury St Edmunds. For those living in or south of Cambridge it is probably best reached via Clare.  For those living East of Cambridge, the A14 to Bury, then south on the B1066 is probably quickest, though there are more direct and scenic minor road options from Newmarket – TomTom Caution!

Lunch at the Plough, Rede.   Offers light snacks but no sandwiches eg Soup of the day with crusty bread (£5.50); Smoked salmon salad (£5.50); Seafood salad (£5.95); Goats Cheese Melts (£5.95); Avocado Pear £6.95); devilled Whitebait (£5.95); Cheddar Cheese Souffle 5.95; Carpaccio (£6.50).

The pub would like us to order on arrival. As their menu is on a blackboard facing the entrance it may help progress if you get some idea of what is there by glancing at their current menu.   Please bear in mind that there may be slight changes by the time we arrive!
