The walk starts at the car park at the northern end of Rowney Warren, on Northwood End Road, close to its junction with the A600 Shefford to Haynes Road. OS Explorer map 208 or Landranger 153. Nearest postcode for SatNav is MK45 3QG.  This is Northwood End Road, near Haynes,
(NOT the Forestry Commission car park in the middle of Rowney Warren – the mountain bikers’ car park.)

From the Cambridge area, travel west to the A1 and leave the A1 at the B658/A6001/A1 (Sainsbury’s) roundabout on the west side of Biggleswade taking the B658 signed Shefford. At next roundabout take 1st exit B658 Shefford.  Turn right into Southill and follow signs to the village of  Ireland, passing the Black Horse. Bear left and keep left, continuing to the crossroads with the A600. Go straight ahead and park in the field on the right hand side of Northwood End Road.

We walk through woods and along the Greensand Ridge Walk to Northill for lunch at the Crown, which serves a range of baguettes, paninis and sandwiches.  The benches by the pond are available for packed lunches.

The afternoon is routed through the villages of Ickwell Green and Old Warden. Approx 13 miles.
