Thursday evening walk on Devil’s Dyke

July 14, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Thursday 14th July, 6.30 pm, Devil’s Dyke near Newmarket, 5¾ miles

We will depart from the July Racecourse grounds at 6.30 pm.  (To get to the walk start point, take the A1303 or A1304 to Newmarket.  You will come to a large roundabout featuring a statue of a man with a rearing horse.  From this roundabout, take the exit marked ‘July Racecourse’ and ‘National Stud’.  Follow this road a short way round until you come to a cul-de-sac.  There is plenty of parking space here.  Grid reference: Landranger 154, 617614).

We will begin by following the Devil’s Dyke south-east.  We will then drop down to walk along a quarter mile of moderately busy, grass verged road before following a quiet farm track to join the pleasantly wooded Stour Valley Way.  Continuing in this direction, we rejoin the Devil’s Dyke, covering mostly new ground, to return to the start of the walk.

Please note that some sections of the Dyke path contain exposed or half-hidden tree roots, so care is needed when walking.  There are also one or two moderately steep steps.

For further information, please contact Anne on 01223 840995 (land line).

You may book in advance or just turn up on the day.

Contact details will be kept for 7 days.

No-one should come on this walk if they feel at all unwell.
