The Oxfam annual Cambridge Walk desperately needs your help!

October 17, 2012 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Oxfam annual Cambridge Walk desperately needs your help!

The Cambridge Oxfam Walk has raised almost £1 million for Oxfam’s Emergencies Fund in the past 45 years. Now the team of volunteers who organise the walk need your help! Several key members have decided to move on to new projects after many years of running the event.

We’re holding a recruitment meeting on Wednesday 17th October at 8 pm, in the Octagon Room of the Wesley Church, King Street, Cambridge, to which you are warmly invited. You can find out at the meeting what the organisation of the walk involves, how you can help and what’s in it for you.

What would I do as part of the Cambridge Walk team?

The roles available are;

  • chair, you will run meetings and encourage and cajole in order to ensure all the pieces of the organisational jigsaw come together to create a successful walk.
  • routes co-ordinator, ensuring the routes are safe, passable and clearly signed
  • equipment manager, making sure all physical infrastructure of the walk is in the right place at the right time.
  • marketing co-ordinator, raising the profile of the walk to attract new walkers
  • sponsors co-ordinator, manage existing and market to new sponsors.

Even if these roles do not suit, you could join the marketing team, help to survey the routes, or become marshals/helpers on the day of the walk.

What’s in it for me?

  • You’ll be changing lives, by giving your time and energy to fund-raising you can be part of Oxfam’s global impact, responding to emergencies in 25 countries.
  • You’ll be developing transferable skills; all these roles require leadership, initiative, problem-solving and teamwork.
  • You’ll be having fun, meet new people and enjoy the buzz that the event generates.

If you can’t make it to the meeting but would like to help or more information, please contact Sue Davies, at sue.davies@dial.pipex.com or phone 01353 624579.

We think it would be sad if a long-standing Cambridge tradition has to end, and sadder still if Oxfam were to lose the funds that it raises annually. If you feel the same way, please get in touch.
