1. Take the A603 Barton/Sandy road to the Arrington roundabout. Take 1st exit onto A1198 Kneesworth/Royston road and follow for just under three miles to reach Kneesworth. At first mini roundabout in centre of Kneesworth, take 2nd exit onto The Causeway (signposted Bassingbourn). In half a mile reach Bassingbourn, go past The Hoops pub on left and shortly afterwards a Spar shop/post office on right. In 200 yards after shop, turn left into South End. Continue for 100 yards to reach the village recreation ground on left.

2. Take the A10 to Royston. At the first roundabout on the outskirts of Royston, take 3rd exit onto the dual-carriageway Royston bypass. At next roundabout, take 3rd exit onto the A1198 Kneesworth/Bassingbourn road to reach Kneesworth. At the second mini roundabout in centre of Kneesworth, take 1^st exit onto The Causeway (signposted Bassingbourn). Then as above.

Park in South End road, Bassingbourn, alongside the village recreation ground. Nearest postcode SG8 5NJ. Meet outside the main gates of the recreation ground.

The walk starts at 10.00 am. It is a virtual figure-of eight. The full route is 5 miles but at two points in in the mid-section there is an option to take an easy-to-follow shortcut back to the cars to make a walk of either 3 miles or 4 miles. The varied scenery includes cultivated fields, open grassland, several streams, two woods and one small nature reserve. The terrain is flat, on good tracks/paths, with no stiles.
