Sunday Cs Walk Barkway

May 26 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

This walk is around Barkway. It has mixed countryside with fairly easy walking. No stiles. The walk is 5.5 miles including a slight detour to see a lovely view over Hertfordshire and hopefully a small loop to see a medieval moated house. There is a shorter route at just under 3 miles if wanted.

We start in Barkway and people should park along the High Street as close as possible to Barkway pond or the village primary school. Best post code SG88EF. A mixture of fields and paths will get us to Reed where we divert up an incline for the view. Passing through Reed it has a mix of fields and wood edges to the turning for the medieval moated house (I am hoping we can get there but route was flooded when I first walked).Again through wood edges and fields we return to Barkway past the church and an old wagon wash.

Best route to Barkway from Cambridge: access via A505. Just after the petrol station turn left onto Barley Rd B 1368. Continue into Barley, turn right staying on B1368 signposted Barkway. Continue on road and come into Barkway. Road bends to left and past a little coffee shop on right and you are on High St Barkway.  Continue down this a little way to find school and village pond. The coffee shop might be open before the walk if we think some of us will arrive early. And we can then use the loos there(there are none in the village). If folk are thinking of walking, please let me know as soon as possible and I can tell him. You can contact me on Ann.radmore@hotmail.co.uk or message 07767440087.
