Sunday Cs Fowlmere Village and RSPB Reserve
January 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
To get to The Chequers pub, High Street, Fowlmere, SG8 7SR, from Cambridge, take the A10 towards Royston. Go over the Foxton rail crossing and in one mile reach the Fowlmere-Shepreth crossroads. Turn left towards Fowlmere. Continue into the village and at the war memorial, which is on a slightly askew T-junction, turn left and the pub is a couple of hundred yards down this road on the left.
We will meet in the pub car park. Please note we can use the toilets in the pub before the walk. Please park considerately so that Sunday Bs and Cs do not completely take over the car park!
I hope the walk will take us up to the USAF memorial and then down to the RSPB reserve (free entry), but this route is not certain (it was closed last week, so I will check a day or so before our walk). Instead, we may have to take an alternative route. We will walk around the reserve and have a coffee break in the main hide. From the reserve we will return to Fowlmere village, either along the edge of a field, or along a narrow lane, depending on the mud situation. The walk is bound to be muddy in places, so please wear boots with good soles and carry a stick.
Our walk is fairly short, under 4 miles. If you want a longer walk, you can join the Sunday Bs who will set off from the pub at the same time as us.
