The walk is about 6 miles along a flat towpath which is concrete/tarmac so no mud! The towpath is very scenic with numerous places to sit and enjoy the views. And it’s a good way to see interesting parts of London from a different angle. If you wish to shorten the walk and return earlier, please be sure to let Sheila or Eliva know.

If any queries please phone Sheila on 07494 905602, also to let her know if you will be meeting her and Eliva at Cambridge railway station or at Camden Town underground station. We will take the 9.22am train from Cambridge, arriving at 10.09am at London Kings Cross, then two stops on the Northern Line to Camden Town arriving at 10.30am.  The return journey will be on the overground train from Hackney Wick station to Highbury and Islington tube station then Victoria Line to Kings Cross.  Our aim would be to take the 18.11 direct train back to Cambridge, arriving at 6.58pm.

After less than 5 minutes’ walk from Camden Town, we propose a half an hour break at Camden Market to visit the market, food stalls or just sit by the lock and watch the canal boats go through. We then walk along the towpath to Kings Cross and visit the newly developed Granary Square area for lunch. There are toilets, refreshments and places to sit by the canal at this point.

After lunch we continue along the towpath to Islington where there is a diversion, due to a tunnel, through a street market then back down onto the towpath. The final stretch takes us from Islington to Victoria Park Hackney and en route we will pass a number of locks and canal-side cafes. In Victoria Park there is a food market with stalls selling food from all over the world plus a lakeside café for tea and coffee plus toilets.   From there, we’ll start our return journey from the nearby Hackney Wick overground station as explained above.
