Sunday C, Great Abington and Hildersham

November 15, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

The usual Covid-19 restrictions will apply:  Please do not come on the walk if you feel even slightly ill.  This walk is limited to 12 participants.  Please email the leader, Barbara W. at bmwebb@aol.com if you wish to come and your details will be held for 21 days for Covid-19 ‘Test and Trace’ purposes, then deleted.  For last minute changes of plan, phone Barbara on 07954402337.  A copy of the Risk Assessment will be available if you wish to see it, and it will be kept for one year.  Social-distancing on the walk is required.   Also, please make sure that you bring with you a face covering for use if needed, hand sanitiser and any walking poles you need; no equipment or refreshments can shared beyond households.  More details relating to taking part in and leading Club walks in a ‘Covid-19’ environment are posted on the CRC website, under ‘Members’.

This walk is 5.5 to 6 miles and begins near Great Abington post office and shop (CB21 6AB). To get there take Hills Road out of Cambridge towards Haverhill. This becomes the A1307. Continue over the junction with the A11 towards Haverhill. The second turning on the right, just past a petrol station, leads into Great Abington High Street. Follow the road round until you get to the shop then turn left into Linton Road. Park on either side of the road about 200-300 yards down. We will assemble there and start walking at 10am.

From Linton Road we will follow a public footpath to Hildersham village. This involves crossing the A1307, which is never pleasant. I do not expect it to be very busy on a Sunday morning, but we will have to take care. Then from Hildersham across meadows to Little Linton, then back across the A1307 – easier here as it’s dual carriageway, but care will still be needed. We then go through Camgrain storage depot – please keep strictly to the marked path. From there a track takes us up to the top of a ridge. Then we walk along the ridge – with views of Cambridge and possibly Ely. Finally we walk back down into Great Abington. Total distance is 5.5 – 6 miles. Inevitably there will be muddy patches in places, so suitable clothing and equipment is advised. No stiles but plenty of gates!
