The Heath Club Car Park, Baldock Road, Royston, SG8 5BG
Starting at Royston Heath Club car park at 10 am, just south of Royston town.
Directions: From Cambridge take A10 south via Trumpington, over M11, and on to Royston. At first roundabout in Royston go straight over to Royston town. At the town hall roundabout turn right to town centre. Continue on this road through town and past Morrisons (on left). As you come out of town, about 500yds there is a sign The Heath Club & car park. Turn left here to get to the car park. No charges for parking.
The walk of 12 miles will take us over Therfield Heath to Therfield village. We walk to Kelshall for lunch. Walk is on the Icknield Way. Beautiful old church here with painted ceiling & Rood screen C15th. Unfortunately no pub here but will go on to Therfield (approx. half hour) to a pub there for a drink. From here walk on Chain walk to The Thrifts and along the Gallops back to Royston Heath Club. There should be an opportunity here for tea & cakes/other drinks on our return.
Some undulating terrain but nothing difficult, giving great views, with mostly good tracks/paths.
I’m hoping that we may see red kites and Pasque flowers.
