Sunday B Walk from Long Melford to Lavenham
August 28, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Long Melford Church/Hospital Car Park, Church Walk, Long Melford CO10 9DJ
Take the A1307 from Cambridge towards Haverhill then the A1017. At Baythorne on some bends turn left onto the A1092 Clare and Long Melford road. Follow road through Stoke by Clare, Clare and Cavendish into Long Melford. At the Black Lion pub on the left, turn left up Church Walk and turn right into the car park (just before the hospital and church). If the car park is full, park on the large grass area below or beside the car park. Car parking is free.
There are free toilets at the top of the large grassy area, which we pass at the start of the walk.
The walk is a new one following much of the St Edmund Way through Kentwell, edge of field paths, wood, a dismantled railway, wild flower meadows, Lavenham Nature Reserve into Lavenham. It is 10.5 miles with 2 stiles. We will walk through Lavenham, the best preserved medieval village in the country, then eat our packed lunches in the church yard at Lavenham. There will be time for a drink in the Cock Horse pub opposite the church or a look around the church. There are public toilets next to the pub. The return is along the St Edmund Way with variations from the way out. There will be an icecream van on the grass car park area in Long Melford on our return.
To book a place on this walk please text Miranda on 07790 592787.
I am happy to give up to 4 people a lift from Fulbourn. Please phone me to book a place in my car.
