Little Chesterford Car Park, High Street, Little Chesterford, CB10 1TS.
The walk will start from the car park in Little Chesterford just off the High Street near the footpath along the river. The postcode is CB10 1TS but this covers quote a lot of Little Chesterford! Map ref 515419. From the A1301 and B184, turn right into Little Chesterford at the roundabout opposite the entrance to the Research Park, road marked “village only”. Follow the High Street through the village, turning right at the church. Just before the river turn right following a sign which says “public footpath” along an unmade road into a large parking area. If this is already full of dog-walkers’ cars, or too muddy, park carefully in the village. We will walk on the slopes north of Saffron Walden with good valley views, and have lunch in Little Walden. The walk will be about 10 miles, 6 before lunch and 4 after, but details of the route and distance will depend on the condition of the paths. Jan 3 recce was unsurprisingly muddy, a bit slippery in places but not deep.
