Sunday B Figure of 8 round Ashwell
June 3, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Walk is 11.1 miles (or possibly 9.5 miles if hot) – 6.5 in morning South and West over chalk downs via Arbury Banks and Hinxworth, and 4.6 in afternoon North and East via Bluegates farm area. If it is as hot and sticky as recently, the afternoon may well be shortened to 3.0 miles, but gain a visit to Ashwell springs. If so, total will be 9.5 miles.
There is no good way to Ashwell from Cambridge! Either take A603 through Orwell, left at roundabout with A1198, and first right through Wendy and Guilden Morden to Ashwell. Or go A10 to Royston and A505 towards Baldock, turning right at Ashwell Station.
As a further complication, it is the Cambridgeshire County Show at Wimpole on Sunday, and there will be traffic lights at Orwell from 9 am, so allow extra time (or take the A10/A505 instead).
Meet outside Ashwell church next to the Bushel and Strike pub (SG7 5LY) on Mill Street. No single parking spot, so street park where you can in the village or near the church.
Lunch back at Ashwell church (so can leave food in cars), with drink at Bushel and Strike.
Paul’s mobile is 07810 523 452.
