Five Miles from Anywhere Pub, Old School Lane, Upware, Ely, CB7 5ZR

From Cambridge take A10 north towards Ely.  Before Ely, at Stretham roundabout take 3^rd exit, going through Stretham on A1123 towards Wicken.  After crossing the railway line and later the river take the turn on the right to Upware (Upware Road).  In Upware, where the road bends left, keep straight on (Old School Lane) to the Five Milles From Anywhere Inn.

From South East Cambridge take A11, then A14 north to Newmarket.  Take A142 towards Soham and Ely.  After Fordham and before Soham at roundabout take 1^st exit A1123 through Wicken and turn left for Upware (Upware Road).  In Upware where the road bends left, keep straight on to the Five Miles from Anywhere Inn.

Alternative bumpy road route not recommended in icy conditions, from Cambridge, drive to Swaffham Prior and past 2 churches turn left along Station Road.  Drive some distance and at corner with small cycle route 11 sign follow road round to right and keep straight on (do not turn left for Lord’s Ground.  At crossroads take left turn to Upware.  Keep straight and road bends to right (Upware sign).  Follow road round bends past farm buildings on left.  At T junction turn left for Upware and follow bendy road crossing river into Upware.  Where road bends right, turn left into Old School Lane for Five Miles from Anywhere Inn at end of road.

Please car share if possible and park close together.  Dieter will direct you to parking areas.  There are now no toilets available at the start of the walk.   The Inn will not open until 11.00.  Toilets will be available at Wicken at coffee time.  The B walk will leave at 10.00 and the C walk at 10.15.  We have permission for both walks to drink and eat own refreshments at the seats and tables outside the National Trust café at Wicken.  There will not be time to buy refreshments at Wicken.  There are toilets behind the café.  The B walk is 7 miles and the C walk is 4.5 miles.  Both walks are on good paths and there are no stiles.

Menu choices and cheques for lunch at the Five Miles From Anywhere Inn must be received by Penny Benziger no later than 19 December.  Anyone coming for lunch only should aim to be at the Inn at 12.45pm.
