Sunday A walk Ferry Meadows, Peterborough
April 15 @ 8:45 am - 4:00 pm
This 14.5 mile walk will be led by Kay with an 8.45 car share from Harvey Road. The start of the walk and parking are at Thorpe Wood Golf Course car park opposite Woodmans pub, Thorpe Wood, PE3 6SQ Peterborough. GR: 158981. If going straight to the start, please be there by 9.30.
The walk will start from Ferry Meadows country park (Hopefully see some bluebells) – walk through Milton Estate (Milton Hall is the largest private house in Cambridgeshire and there are some interesting buildings) – Castor Hangland – Castor for a slightly later lunch, then return. The morning will be 9 miles to Castor, then approx 5.5 miles in the afternoon.
The village of Castor has the beautiful St Kyneburgha church with lots of wooden angels and fresco of St Catherine. This church is listed by Simon Jenkins as one of the finest Norman churches in England and in the top 100 churches in England, so not to be missed. It is also on high ground!
Kay will be leading for the first time for us and has had to make last minute changes to the route due to flooding of the Nene. Her walk is in an area we rarely walk, so please come along and support her and walk some new ground.
Kay’s mobile on the day is 07453537763.
