Helen has given full instructions below for travelling arrangements and meeting point, please read them carefully:
“Catch 8.32hrs train from Cambridge Station to Broxbourne ( or get on at Whittlesford Parkway at 08.39hrs) arrive at Broxbourne station at 09.15hrs. Walk through the Car Park or along New River Path onto Nazing New Road, turn left, cross the bridge and immediately take Old Nazing Road a small road on right to Lee Valley Boat Centre. We will start from here at 09.30hrs (What 3 words – equal.brick.merit) It will take about 5 minutes to walk from station.
If you travel by car, park at Broxbourne Lido Car Park , Nazing New Road, Broxbourne, EN10 6TD (free on Sundays). This is extensive, and the furthermost point is right by Lee Valley Boat Centre.”
The walk is initially along the Lee Valley Navigation to the White Water Rafting Centre, cross the river at Waltham Abbey Lock and walk back north along River Lea to Seventy Acres Lake. From here we will walk through Hertfordshire countryside to the sailing areas around Nazing Mead. We will then follow Lea Valley Navigation path to pass through industrial area to join the peaceful New River Path at Rye Mill to take us back to Broxbourne. Much of the walk (but not all) is flat and on asphalt paths , it is a haven for wildlife particularly water fowl – so bring your binoculars if you are a birdspotter.
