Sunday C Walk, Devil’s Dyke

April 25, 2021 @ 9:45 am - 1:00 pm

Sunday C Walk, 25th April 2021, Devil’s Dyke, Newmarket, 6 miles

Please read the Covid-19 Guidance below.

The walk leaves the July Racecourse grounds at 9.45am.   To get there, take the A1303 or A1304 to Newmarket.   At the large roundabout with a statue of man with rearing horse, take exit marked ‘July Racecourse’ and ‘National Stud’.   Follow this road a short way round until you come to a cul-de-sac with plenty of parking space.  Grid reference: Landranger 154, 617614.

The walk begins by heading south-east along the Devil’s Dyke.   We then drop down and take a short but unavoidable route along a busy road before turning into a quiet farm track and on to join the pleasantly wooded Stour Valley Way.   Continuing in this direction, we rejoin the Devil’s Dyke and return by a mostly different route to the start of the walk.

N.B.  Some sections of the Dyke path contain a lot of exposed or half-hidden tree roots, so care is needed when walking.   There are also one or two moderately steep steps.   Some sections of the path may be slippery when wet.  There are lots of nettles at the start/end of the walk.  Trousers recommended.

Covid-19 Guidance:  In line with the requirements for group walks of more than 6 people, as approved by the Ramblers (the national body for walking), everyone coming on the walk must provide the leader with their contact details (name and phone or mobile number).  The maximum number of people allowed on this walk is 18.  The group can be divided into 2 smaller groups if necessary.   To book, please phone Anne D. ahead of the walk on 01223 840995.   Your details will be held for 21 days for Covid-19 ‘test and trace’ purposes, then deleted.

No one should come on the walk if you feel even slightly ill. Please make sure that you bring with you a face covering, hand sanitiser and any walking poles you need; no equipment or refreshments can be shared beyond households. In line with government guidelines members are asked to observe ‘social distancing’ on the walk.  More details relating to taking part in and leading Club walks in a ‘Covid-19’ environment are posted on the CRC website, under ‘Members’.  Please have another look at these before you come on the walk.
