B Morning Walks Program Spring and Summer 24
Hello All,
So finally, we have a complete program of walks until the end of July. These walks are about 6 miles. Our walks begin at 10.00 am and are all done by 1.00 pm. We don’t normally do lunch, but there will be a short break for a drink and snack. We walk at roughly 3 miles an hour and you should come in stout shoes. If you want to join a walk, send the leader a text before 6pm on the evening before the walk. Their contact details will be published on the event sheet.
As you know, there have been muttering about changing the distance remit of the B-Morning walks. After discussion, with individuals and at the recent club committee meeting, it is decided that our remit should remain, about 5.5 to 6.5 miles. In the list below you will see that occasional walks are slightly more than 6.5 miles but never more than 7 miles. There will also be many walks of 6 miles or less.
To help the group who would like longer walks, I have decided to mark those walks where it would be possible to walk further as ‘option to extend’ and to note where lunch could be taken, should you wish to do so. Any extension or arrangements for lunch, must be made informally between those wishing to partake. The leaders for the morning part are only expected to lead that part and are not expected to lead any further than the distance stated on the event sheet. I would be grateful however if leaders could pass on information about good local pubs or cafes, suitable for lunch, if you are aware of them. The places listed below are just a selection of possibilities.
Wednesday 17th July: Upware and Wicken Fen: Our summer event will be a walk beginning and ending at the Five Miles form Anywhere pub in Upware. We have been given permission (for those taking lunch) to park in the pub carpark. Other parking is available close by for anyone not wishing to join us. This pub does not accept bookings, but as it is a large venue, they are confident they will be able to feed and seat us all if we order at the bar, as we return from the walk.
I’m happy to receive any offers to lead from August onwards. Your walk should be around 6 miles, leave from somewhere with parking for 25-20 and be with 20 miles of Cambridge. If you want to know more about leading, ask me.
I really hope you will be able to join and enjoy the walks program this summer. If you are leading, I will be in touch to sort out the details for the event sheet, nearer the time.
See you all soon
Esther
