Spring Coach and Hotel Trip to Eastbourne, Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March 2023 (2 nights)

Booking is now closed for this trip ; all rooms have been reservedand we have a waiting list.

It’s great to be able to announce that the Club is running a ‘Coach & Hotel’ trip to Eastbourne in late March 2023; many thanks to Helen for taking over the reins as Spring Trips’ Organiser!

Eastbourne claims to be the sunniest town in the UK and is the perfect place to take a short break – lying on the South coast near the beautiful rolling downland of the South Downs and iconic Seven Sisters chalk cliffs around Beachy Head. This variety of landscape gives us the chance to plan a range of A, B & C walks to suit all tastes and abilities, although some ramblers might prefer to enjoy the attractions of the town and surrounding area.

We will stay at the Lansdowne Hotel, Eastbourne www.bw-lansdownehotel.co.uk , a traditional Victorian Hotel set directly on the seafront west of the Pier.  All rooms are now taken.

We will leave Bottisham at 10.00 on the morning of Friday 24th March and plan to arrange car parking near to the coach pick up point, (at a cost of £10 per car). We will stop en-route at Sheffield Park Gardens, see  www.nationaltrust.org.uk , with its attractive gardens, parkland and four lakes. Entry to the Gardens costs £14 for those who are not National Trust Members, (although  NT Life Members will be able to get in one non-member as a guest). There are also waymarked routes and a cafe outside the formal gardens for anyone not wanting to explore the extensive gardens.

On Saturday all 3 walks will follow parts of the South Downs Way; the longer A walk will include the Cuckmere Valley before joining the B walk route at Exceat Bridge, then both groups walk over the famous Seven Sisters to Burling Gap. From this starting point for the C walkers, all 3 walks will climb up to Beachy Head and then descend through parkland to the esplanade along Eastbourne’s shore. On Sunday 3 walks of different lengths will start and finish at the attractive village of Alfriston. We will return to Bottisham on the evening of 26th March.

The cost of the weekend, including two nights’ accommodation, breakfast, dinner and two packed lunches, coach and gratuities is £230 per person for a shared room or small single room, or £260 for single occupancy of a double or twin room.

Bookings please to Helen Greathead at  spring@cambridgeramblingclub.com . A non-refundable deposit of £75 is to be paid to the Club’s account at booking, preferably by bank transfer, with the final payment to be made by Monday 20th February 2023. The bank account details are available from Helen; please reference ‘Eastbourne’.
