Our walk on 17 September will start from the Great Hockham Picnic Site car park [GR TL938919] – click for map.

Directions: Take the A11 to the roundabout ~2miles northeast of Thetford town centre. Turn left on the A1075, signed Dereham, Watton & HM Prison Wayland!  Our car park is on the left-hand side, approximately 6 miles from the roundabout. After passing the speed derestriction sign on leaving Wretham, in about 300 yards you will pass a sign warning of bends for ½ mile. 200 yds beyond that point there is a low-placed sign on the roadside marking ‘picnic place 500 yds’ which is partially obscured by grass.

Our route [6 miles am, 5.5 miles pm] : Follows a section of Peddars Way then winds through a Nature Reserve via a series of pingos [ice age relics], lunch, and a disused, attractively treed & pingoed railway line. Occasional mosquitos might still be encountered in September, though none were observed on today’s recce!

Lunch at the Chequers Inn, Thompson. Good range of food. Please consume own food on village green.
